20th Cracovia Marathon: running "through history"
During the 20th Cracovia Marathon, as has invariably been the case for years, the royal distance in the royal city will be covered by runners "through history". What is really hidden under this slogan? Our Ambassadors have found out!
Back in 2002, the Organising Committee wrote: "We cordially invite you to participate in this extraordinary Marathon. We have been involved in its preparation with great commitment, trying to make it as attractive as possible. The Main Market Square, the Royal Road, the Wawel Castle, Błonia and the Vistula boulevards linked by new bridges. This is a one of a kind opportunity to get to know the most beautiful and precious places of the royal city, befriend its picturesque corners and impressive monuments."
Although the route undergoes minor modifications every year, adapting to the pace of the changing city, the motto , "through history", remains ever-present. Marathon runners traditionally run past the most important monuments, negotiating the charming streets of the Old Town. They can feel the breath of history on their backs, while at the same time experiencing the modern face of Kraków. The crowning glory of the event is the beautiful nature, which comes to life at this time of the year, fuelling the runners to continue their fight along the route.
