Cracovia Marathon with IAAF Road Race Bronze Label certificate!

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) awarded Cracovia Marathon with the IAAF Bronze Label certificate, thus confirming the high organizational and sport standards of the Krakow event.

The International Association of Athletics Federations IAAF annually awards the races with Gold, Silver and Bronze Label certificates. They are awarded on the basis of demanding criteria.

This year, Mrs. Hilary Walker – International Technical Delegate of the IAAF arrived from London to the 17th PZU Cracovia Marathon to assess a number of recommendations contained in the IAAF regulations. She reported her observations to the International Association of Athletics Federations. The Krakow event was rated very highly, and for the first time in history, it is in the elite group of the best street runs in the world.

The most important recommendations include requirements such as:

• A route with an attestation and a mileage mark;

• Elite of runners (at least 5 men and 5 women from 4 different countries) who during the 36 months preceding the race or recorded the corresponding sports score in the race (men - 02:16:00 and women - 2:38:00);

• Organization of a special briefing for elite of runners before the start of the run, during which the competitors will be familiarised with the route (so-called route tour);

• Anti-doping test after running for at least 2 men and 2 women;

• Providing a car that measures time before the so-called leading race (for both men and women);

• On-line transmission of the marathon.

These are just some of the many requirements that had to be met in order for the Cracovia Marathon to obtain the IAAF Bronze Label certificate.

The calendar of the International Association of Athletics Federations for 2018 includes 114 marathons awarded with IAAF certificates (including 56 - Gold, 26 - Silver and 32 Bronze Label). There are also Polish races on this list (PZU Warsaw Marathon, PZU Warsaw Half Marathon, PKO Poznań Marathon, Onico Gdynia Half Marathon, DOZ Marathon Łódż – Bronze Label and Orlen Warsaw Marathon - Silver Label).

We will see the Cracovia Marathon among the decorated events in the IAAF calendar in the ranking for 2019.
