Cracovia Marathon with World Athletics Silver Label Road Races certificate!

World Athletics (previously The International Association of Athletics Federations IAAF) awarded Cracovia Marathon with the World Athletics Silver Label Road Races certificate, thus confirming the high organizational and sport standards of the Krakow event. This year's 19th Cracovia Marathon will already be held as Silver Label Road Race.

World Athletics annually awards the races with Gold, Silver and Bronze Label certificates. From 2020, events can also apply for the Platinium Label. They are awarded on the basis of demanding criteria.

Mr. Carlos Cardoso from Portugal – International Technical Delegate of the IAAF appeared at last year’s, 18th PZU Cracovia Marathon to assess a number of recommendations contained in the IAAF regulations. He reported his observations to the International Association of Athletics Federations (now World Athletics).

The most important recommendations include requirements such as:

• A route with an attestation and a mileage mark;

• Elite of runners (at least 5 men and 5 women), who are included in the ranking of athletes in the World Athletics regulations;

• Organization of a special briefing for elite of runners before the start of the run, during which the competitors will be familiarised with the route (so-called route tour);

• Anti-doping test after running for 8 samples for mixed races (4 men and 4 women). At least 2 samples must be tested for EPO;

• Providing a car that measures time before the so-called leading race (for both men and women);

• On-line transmission of the marathon.

These are just some of the many requirements that had to be met in order for the Cracovia Marathon to obtain the World Athletics Silver Label Road Races certificate.

In the 2020 list, Cracovia Marathon is on the World Athletics calendar - as the only Polish marathon - among the awarded events with the status of Silver Label Road Races.

At the moment, in the mentioned World Athletics calendar for 2020 there are two more street runs from our country - Warsaw Half Marathon (Silver Label) and Warsaw Marathon (Bronze Label).
